URGENT: Israeli-American Analyst Caroline Glick has penned an op-ed that has it exactly correct. Barack Obama is well on his way to achieving his principal foreign policy objective in the Middle East, and it is NOT about peace, or disarmament or democracy.
Despite deceptive appearances of chaotic "reversals" and seeming shifts of course in the region, which are all feints, Obama's goal remains constant and is succeeding – to isolate and weaken the State of Israel.
In the current Iranian "nuclear deal," the Ayatollahs so blatantly triumphed in getting everything they wanted from the Obama administration and its European Union partners that the Iranian delegation went home to Tehran to unqualified approval, bragging about how it had duped the West.
Iran got economic sanctions lifted, it got billions in cash released, it got to maintain and expand its nuclear program.
And to add insult to injury, Iran got a virtual guarantee that the West's major powers won't lift a finger to avert it from weaponizing its nuclear program, which leaves Israel completely isolated on the world stage – and thus, profoundly geopolitically weakened in acting in her own defense.
One can only conclude, looking at the evidence, that this is the result the Israel-haters of the Obama faction were seeking.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's Supreme Leader, praised President Hassan Rouhani for the deal that was reportedly negotiated in secret for a year with a U.S. team led by the Iranian-born Obama consigliera Valerie Jarrett, without the knowledge of Israel or even our other allies, and inked at the P5+1. Khamenei called Israel "rabid dogs" and openly denounced the West during this nuclear program negotiation process.
"Definitely, the success was made relying on the divine blessing and the support of the Iranian nation," the government Islamic Republic News Agency quoted Khamenei. The ayatollah added that "Iranian authorities should always maintain the spirit of resisting against excessive demanding."
Khamenei's statement was a response to Rouhani's notification that the nuclear deal had gone through.
"Undoubtedly, this breakthrough is the result of God's blessings, the Leader's guidelines and unwavering support of the Iranian nation," Rouhani wrote to the Khamenei. Rouhani also claimed "world powers have come to the conclusion that sanctions and pressures will prove futile, and as Iran stated from the very beginning, there is no way to reach agreement but through mutual respect and respectful negotiations."
Conspicuously, Senior Military Aide to the Iranian Supreme Leader Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi was crowing on Iranian national news that a weak U.S. has failed to rein in the "Islamic awakening."
"…The Americans are not able to harness the Islamic awakening – the same way that they couldn't control the Islamic Revolution (of Iran), the Islamic awakening cannot be stopped," Safavi said, according to the semi-official Iranian news service, Fars.
Despite the recent guise adopted by Rouhani as some sort of "moderate," the Iranian regime persists in unabashed fanatical Islamic radicalism, openly committed to annihilation of America and Israel – the "Great and Little Satan."
While the U.S. maintains that there is no recognized right to enrich uranium in the new accord, Iran says it wouldn't have approved the deal otherwise. Despite this, and other disputes of what was actually agreed to in this "deal" the U.S. government has ALREADY released $8 BILLION to Iran in assets that have been frozen since the 1979 hostage crisis. Iran's Foreign Ministry says the agreement allows Iran to continue its activities at nuclear facilities Arak, Fordow and Natanz while stipulating that no additional sanctions will be imposed on Tehran.
Secretary of State John Kerry has launched into the throes of furiously lobbying Congress to prevent additional sanctions against Iran being levied. The Senate plans to vote on new sanctions after returning from the Thanksgiving recess, and key Democrats supporting further sanctions are speaking out about their deep reservations over the White House deal.
And they are right to be alarmed. The "deal" empowers rather than inhibits Iran's quest to build a nuclear arsenal. The relief of sanctions that Iran has gained does not require Iran to make any irreversible concessions. Indeed, Iran just received the international community's permission to continue to enrich uranium, keep all its nuclear installations open and build new centrifuges.
The "deal" is so bad, there are many countries in the region that have expressed their concerns. The Gulf States – Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, UAE, and Oman are have Sunni Muslim governments that rightly fear the growing Iranian Shi'a aggression of the Ayatollahs.
Iran, certainly, has conceded nothing. Its resolve, and its objectives, remain today the same as those it has held throughout its years-long faceoff with the international community over its nuclear ambitions. Only America, only Obama capitulated – appeasing and surrendering the demands of Western nations that Iran abandon the drive to nuclear capability.
This is because Obama and his collaborators are APPEASERS OF ISLAMIC TERRORISM more determined to prevent Israel from defending herself, than they are determined to disarm a nuclear Iran.
Extreme, you say? Illogical? Why would any sane person pursue such a course?
Tragically – to pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel ideologues such as Obama, Kerry, Hagel and Jarrett, and all those who populate Obama's faction – it makes perfect sense. At all cost, Israel must be subjugated.
On Tuesday, Iran's Rouhani sent a message to an anti-Israel U.N. hate-fest, which stressed Tehran's solidarity with the Palestinians, "… I am interested in restating my country's resolve to stand beside the innocent Palestinian nation and support them continuously."
Rouhani reaffirmed that any possible rapprochement between Tehran and Washington "will never affect its policy of support and assistance to the Palestinian nation and Islamic Resistance." Expanding on Rouhani's statement, "Iran's principled policies have not changed at all and supporting the Islamic Resistance and the Palestinian nation's rights are a constituent of Iran's foreign policy and no change has been made in this policy and support," Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham told reporters in Tehran.
She expressed the hope that "the Palestinian nation which has experienced the Zionist regime's cruelties and pressures for years could retrieve its inalienable rights and what it has lost in the past, including its lands."
The strategic reality of Israel's position with Obama's agenda is grim. As Caroline Glick notes:
"Over the past year, Obama has engaged in systematically weakening Israel's position both regionally and in Washington. Regionally, the U.S. has forced Israel into talks with the Palestinians that are engineered to weaken Israel strategically and diplomatically. The U.S. has delegitimized Israel's legal rights to sovereignty and self-defense, while effectively justifying Palestinian terrorism as a legitimate response to Israeli actions – which themselves were perfectly legal. So, too, the U.S. has given a green light to the EU's illegal, discriminatory economic war against Israel…"
Unless and until the Palestinians are compelled to renounce terrorism and violence, acknowledge the Jewish state's right to exist, and negotiate true peace directly with Israel, intensifying conflict, even all-out war in the Middle East, becomes more and more likely.
Insistently, the PLO and particularly Hamas argue that their flagrantly intentional killings of noncombatants are in proper "retaliation" for Israel's "occupation." Hamas (the Islamic Resistance Movement) steadfastly refuses to renounce "armed struggle," the terrorist, jihadist killing of innocent civilians.
And even now, by periodically launching its rocket attacks from populated areas of Gaza, Hamas and also Islamic Jihad (Al-Quds Brigades) resort to the barbarous practice of using human shields of women, children and elderly noncombatants.
"Moderate" Fatah, still in command over the West Bank (Judea and Samaria) as the Palestinian Authority, revealed its true anti-Israel radicalism in an Internal Order Document Article 17: "The armed popular revolution is the only inevitable way to the liberation of Palestine." Article 19: "The struggle will not end until the elimination of the Zionist entity and the liberation of Palestine."
Where is America? Obama, Secretary of State John Kerry and U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, are WORSE in their Israel-bashing than were Hillary Clinton and Leon Panetta, the last time hostilities erupted on the West Bank. In the winter of 2011, the Obama administration overtly blamed the Jews for the renewed Palestinian aggression against the Israelis, including Arab Katyusha rocket volleys striking Galilee in northern Israel from southern Lebanon!
The Obama administration routinely faults Israel for accelerating Arab strife and violence in the region, and demands the Jewish state "reverse the trend of its growing isolation" from its Arab neighbors – even as every step Obama takes is designed to further demonize and isolate Israel from international approval.
"Blame the victims" is Obama's strategy for de-legitimizing Israel throughout the world, and particularly at the U.N. where his pro-Palestinian bias has been unremittingly, overtly evident. Jewish-American conservatives before the last election took out a full-page ad in leading newspapers demanding the Obama administration "stop blaming Israel first."
The simple truth is that Barack Obama has carved out a special, shameful unpopularity for himself as the most anti-Israel president ever – and he is dragging the Democrat party down this road. We need to make sure Congress keeps it in mind – and that "it shows" in their support of Israel during these trying and dangerous days.
Unnegotiated Palestinian "statehood" IS a huge provocation certain to ignite and perpetuate untold violence. Such a "state" concocted by UN fiat would initiate terror attacks in Jerusalem or on other vital Israeli territory, and Israel's enemies would brand her necessary defensive actions "aggression" against a UN member state. Under a "Uniting for Peace" General Assembly Resolution vote, blue-helmeted "peacekeepers" could be deployed into Israel's sovereign lands and set up occupation.
In fact, United States troops, under the New-World-Order command of the United Nations, could be ordered to invade our ally – Israel!
Yet every disastrous step Obama takes in the region, weakening Israeli sovereignty and strength, makes such unthinkable scenarios more possible – not to mention the terrible escalation of hostilities in the region should Israel be compelled to launch a military strike against Iran's nuclear program as a last recourse to arrest it.
As observed by foreign affairs expert Caroline Glick, Obama is
NOW Obama is positioning Israel as an international pariah state, confronted with an intractable enemy dedicated to her annihilation, and rapidly reaching unimpeded nuclear capability.
On the multi-lateral front, Israel is still contending with unilaterally defined Palestinian "statehood" in a rogue UN resolution and an unremitting international campaign of defamation against Israel. Such a resolution is unlawful unlawful outside the context of a peace treaty with Israel. Such a proposal is an overt violation of prior UN Resolution 242, which requires a negotiated settlement between Israel and Palestinian representatives before any UN action may be considered on a Palestinian state. Such a proposal explicitly repudiates the Oslo Accords.
Yet Obama allows the Palestinians to gather support for this travesty, snickers at calling Netanyahu a liar while posturing as an ally of Israel – and leaves Israel twisting in the wind with Iran and battling terrorists in Gaza and the West Bank. Is this any way to treat an ally?
Another reason Israel is imperiled is because the U.S. government under Obama, through security leaks and other breaches, has maliciously crippled Israel's covert operations against Iran's nuclear program – leaving few options other than military strikes against Iran's reactors and nuclear facilities.
Pro-Israel Republicans and Democrats in the House and the Senate MUST unite in defense of the Jewish state! Whatever the global politics of this Iranian "deal" may finally prove to be, one cold, hard fact of American politics MUST be confronted. In February 2010 that 48 percent of Democrats supported Israel and 70 percent of Republicans did. Those figures have only worsened since.
Obama is destroying his old party, destroying America's proud and noble consensus in support of Israel, leading our country to ruin, and imperiling the only democracy in the Middle East as he pursues policies that bring the region closer and closer to catastrophic, perhaps even nuclear war.
There is a liberal majority of the Democrat party that no longer stands foursquare with Israel – and under the "leadership" of Obama, the betrayal of Israel is becoming party policy.
IT MUST NOT BECOME AMERICA'S POLICY.
AMERICA STANDS WITH ISRAEL.
