The Obama campaign is feeling the heat from friends of the Jewish state – at the end of January they put out a video extolling Obama's record on Israel. (It is missing its "Paid For and Authorized By" FEC-required disclosure, by the way – federal campaign law is for the little people.) They took excerpts from speeches and press statements by Israeli leaders, similar to that by leftwing Labor Party Israeli President Shimon Peres on Thursday, who said that Obama is "a great president and a great friend of Israel," and that security cooperation between the U.S. and Israel is "the best we've ever had.".... According to Security Council president Jose Filipe Moraes Cabral of Portugal, the Palestinians remain at least one vote short of the requisite nine to achieve recommendation for a Council vote for state membership. The report said the Council remains divided among those member states that support Palestinian membership, those that can't support it now and therefore in a vote would abstain, and those that believe the application doesn't meet the criteria for membership and oppose it.... UPDATE: Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas's unilateral declaration of statehood at the UN has left the Oslo Accords' bilateral framework between Israel and the PA in shreds, with negotiations clearly no longer a credible avenue. This brazen act of provocation by the PA, emboldened by Obama's hostile policies toward Israel, shows it is incontrovertibly true that the Palestinians refuse to recognize Israel's right to exist....
